We, at Little Kingshill, were honoured to have been involved in Solar Schools which is a brand new project that’s helping to put clean energy into classrooms all over the country. It uses an innovative fundraising tool kit to help schools ‘crowd-source’ money from local communities to invest in solar panels. Parents, businesses and alumni and others, sponsored sections of a school’s ‘virtual solar roof’ online which then became a reality once the necessary cash wasraised. Solar Schools is a project from the carbon cutting organisation 10:10 which is a 120,000-strong global community of people and organisations tackling climate change. The first of the fundraising events supported by our parents’ association FOLKS was the quiz night on Saturday, September 29th 2012.
We continued to fundraise tirelessly and by July 2013, we had reached our target figure of £15,000. During the summer holidays, the solar panels were installed onto the hall roof. It is very difficult to see them from the ground, but they are definitely there!!
Imogen and Mal from Solar Schools visited and filmed the school on our sponsored Scoot and Skate day in July as we were getting closer to reaching the target figure!
A massive thanks to FOLKS, all the children, parents and everyone who contributed to making this a roaring success!
