The School has a Special Needs Policy in line with the SEN Code of Practice (2001). It includes the role that the school has in identifying children with learning or behavioural difficulties. There is a member of staff responsible for Special Needs (SENDCo) and a Special Needs Governor. The Class Teacher supports the child with special needs, within the classroom setting, either individually or in a group situation. A Learning Support assistant may be involved to support the children. If the child requires an individual learning programme, an IEP (Individual Education Plan) will be initiated in consultation with the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator or, in some cases, a Specialist Teacher. The child will be placed on a Special Needs Register. Parents will be involved in this process and expected to support their child at school and at home.
If appropriate, an LA Educational Psychologist will be enlisted to give further advice.
